Undeva în lumea vastă a internetului, există un site numit „Jigoku Tsushin” (mesajul iadului) care poate fi accesat doar la miezul nopţii. Când sunt postate blesteme pe acel site, Jigoku Shoujo (Fata Iadului) va apărea şi-l va trage pe răzbunător în infern. Astfel de zvonuri păreau să fie o doar o legendă care era crezută numai de copii, dar Jigoku Tsushin chiar exista.
Ai Enma se transformă în Jigoku Shoujo când blestemele sunt postate pe Jigoku Tsushin. Ea are puterea de a-l trage pe răzbunător în infern, dar există o condiţie.
„Blestemele, ca şi găinile, vin acasă ca să se odihnească. Şi sufletul tău va fi luat în infern, dar numai după ce îţi trăieşti viaţa. Depinde de tine!”
În ciuda faptului că este difuzat la miezul nopţii, în Japonia, Hell Girl înregistrează cote mari de audienţă .
